McAllen Mediation Center

The McAllen Mediation Center is dedicated to the peaceful and effective resolution of
disputes. We offer a full range of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services including
mediation, arbitration, umpiring and settlement consultation.

Our offices in McAllen, Texas are centrally located at 10th Street and Nolana, just 15
minutes from the McAllen airport and both the Hidalgo County and Federal Courthouses.

We strive to make you comfortable during your mediation. We offer Peet’s coffee, a wide
variety of snacks and soft drinks and lunches from great local restaurants (for full day
mediations), all at no additional charge. Wi-fi and television are also available so you
can work or catch up with the world when the mediator is visiting with other parties.

Mediators / Arbitrators

J. Scott McLainJ. Scott McLain has practiced law for over 34 years and has been a professional mediator and arbitrator for the past seven years. During that time, he has successfully mediated a wide variety of complex cases in all areas of civil litigation including wrongful death, personal injury, medical negligence, employment disputes, construction litigation consumer disputes, premises liability, partnership disputes, environmental matters and breach of contract claims. He has a reputation for tenacity, leading to a settlement rate of approximately 80%.

Mr. McLain is a member of the American Arbitration Association’s (AAA) prestigious national roster of arbitrators.

Mr. McLain received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas Pan American, Honors Program, in 1977, Summa Cum Laude. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas School of Law in 1980, with honors, and for high attainments in the study of law was made a member of the Order of the Coif. He received his mediation training at the Harvard Law School Program of Instruction for Lawyers and his arbitration training from the American Arbitration Association. He is recognized as a “Credentialed Mediator” by the Texas Mediator Credentialing Distinguished Association.

During his years in practice, Mr. McLain has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in all types of civil litigation. He has been a speaker at seminars sponsored by the State Bar of Texas and the Texas Trial Lawyers Association. In 2001, the Trial Lawyers for Public Justice named him Trial Lawyer of the Year Finalist. He has consistently been given an AV rating by Martindale Hubbell.

Mr. McLain is a member of the State Bar of Texas ADR section, the Texas Association of Mediators, the Association of Attorney Mediators and the Association for Conflict Resolution. He is on the Board of Directors of the Texas Attorney Mediators Coalition.  Mr. McLain currently serves on the State Bar of Texas Committee for the Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct.

 

Michael A. Zanca

Michael A. Zanca has practiced law for over 24 years. Mr. Zanca has been a professional mediator for the past 7 years and has been an Associate Municipal Court Judge in Harlingen, Texas, for the past 6 years. Mr. Zanca has successfully mediated over 1,000 cases since 2009, including disputes in all areas of civil litigation, personal injury, disputes, including but not limited to automobile, premises, product liability and medical negligence. Mr. Zanca has also mediated complex and diverse matters regarding insurance coverage, breach of contract, employment law, construction defects, consumer/business disputes and family law.

Mr. Zanca received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas – Pan American in 1988 and received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas School of Law in 1991.

Mr. Zanca received his Basic Mediation Training from Lubbock County Dispute Resolution Center in 2008 and his Family Law Mediation training in 2009, also from the Lubbock County Dispute Resolution Center. Mr. Zanca was a former partner of Roerig, Oliveira & Fisher, L.L.P. for the previous 19 years where he represented both plaintiffs and defendants in all types of civil litigation until joining McAllen Mediation Center in 2016.

Mr. Zanca is a member of the State Bar of Texas ADR Section, and he is a member of both the Cameron and Hidalgo County Bar Associations.

In his free time Mr. Zanca enjoys fishing, surfing, tennis, following his favorite sports teams and spending time with his family.
